The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken proactive steps following the horrific gangrape of a 15-year-old in Tamil Nadu, describing the situation as highly alarming. Immediate action has been mandated to ensure justice and support for the survivor and her family.
Vijaya Rahatkar, NCW chairperson, has instructed the Tamil Nadu police to swiftly register an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act, arrest the accused, and conduct a thorough, time-sensitive investigation. Additionally, she has called for comprehensive medical care, counseling, and rehabilitation services for the affected girl and her family.
Union Minister Annpurna Devi also expressed her deep concern over the case, urging NCW to work promptly with the authorities to ensure the strongest legal action against the perpetrators. Both the NCW and the Minister stressed the importance of enhancing protective measures to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
