An influential academician, Madhu Kishwar, has come under legal scrutiny as Chandigarh police filed charges against her for criminal defamation, promoting enmity, and other offenses. The charges arise from complaints about alleged circulation of misleading and forged content on social media.

The case, registered in Chandigarh, falls under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions against promoting enmity and criminal defamation, along with related IT Act violations. Kishwar was served notice to join the probe, with a police team visiting her residence in Delhi.

Kishwar, however, raised issues regarding the timing of the police visit, highlighting legal regulations concerning arrests of women at night. The ongoing investigation scrutinizes a video linked in the accusation, misidentifying individuals and intended to mislead and cause public unrest.
