Rise of Narishakti: Women Transforming Civil Services in India

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday commended the significant rise in female participation in civil services across India, noting a notable increase from 21% in 2016 to nearly 31% by 2025. Speaking at the Civil Services Day celebrations, Radhakrishnan expressed optimism about witnessing similar progress within Parliament and state assemblies.

The Vice President highlighted how women’s increasing representation in key roles such as police commissioners and superintendents is redefining success, transcending traditional stereotypes. He emphasized that this shift is not just statistical but also reflects a fundamental change in societal attitudes toward women in leadership positions.

Furthermore, Radhakrishnan discussed the necessity for civil servants to adapt to new technologies like AI to enhance public service delivery. He urged state governments to update their recruitment policies to prioritize specialization over generalist qualifications, signaling a transformative era for governance in India.
