Delhi HC Expedites Visa Process for Pernia Qureshi Amid Citizenship Row

The Delhi High Court instructed the FRRO to hasten Pernia Qureshi's visa application. Qureshi, a US citizen, contested the rejection of her PIO status. Her visa, like her sister Sylvia's, is pending expedited processing following scrutiny of her complex citizenship history linked to Indian, US, and Pakistani relations.

The Delhi High Court has intervened to hasten the visa process for Pernia Qureshi, the daughter of well-known meat exporter Moin Akhtar Qureshi.

In a recent ruling, Justice Sachin Datta urged the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to expedite the processing of Pernia's visa application. Pernia had previously filed a petition challenging the cancellation of her Person of Indian Origin (PIO) status, which was affected by her parental lineage connecting to Pakistan.

The court's decision also addressed Pernia's sister Sylvia Moin’s visa application, mandating swift evaluation within 10 days. These developments emerge as both sisters face residency complications due to citizenship legislations impacting those with Pakistani ancestry.
