In a remarkable affirmation of judicial independence, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj praised Delhi High Court judge Swarna Kanta Sharma for refusing to recuse herself from the contentious liquor policy case. The case involves AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and raises significant questions about alleged pressure tactics.
Swaraj addressed a press conference, firmly criticizing Kejriwal’s attempts to, as she termed it, bully and pressure a female judge, asserting that these actions aimed at manipulating the judicial narrative amount to a direct attack on judicial integrity. She highlighted the Aam Aadmi Party's alleged anti-women stance, referencing the party's opposition to the Women's Reservation Amendment.
Justice Sharma, in her pronouncement, emphasized that no political leader should be allowed to undermine the judiciary through baseless personal attacks. She rejected attempts to disqualify her from the case, insisting on the damaging implications of such unwarranted pressures on judicial roles and independence.
