Kyiv Shooting Sparks Public Outcry Over Police Conduct
Following a tragic shooting in Kyiv, where a gunman killed seven and took hostages before being shot dead, questions about police response and gun control have emerged. Two officers face scrutiny for inaction, as authorities probe the incident as a terrorist act and reevaluate self-defense rights and firearm regulations in Ukraine.
A man injured in Saturday's horrific Kyiv shooting has succumbed to his injuries, raising the death toll to seven, according to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
Writing on Telegram, Kravchenko disclosed that two police officers are under suspicion after surveillance footage showed them fleeing rather than addressing the scene's aftermath.
The Russian-born gunman, initially unchallenged, opened fire on pedestrians, later taking hostages within a supermarket before being neutralized by police. Criticism mounts over police conduct, as authorities begin investigating the event as a terrorist attack and consider implications for self-defense rights and firearm permits in Ukraine.
