A fight planned among juveniles turned deadly at a park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, after an altercation led to a mass shooting on Monday morning, authorities reported.
The tragic event unfolded at Leinbach Park around 10 am, resulting in two fatalities and several injuries, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. The park is located near Jefferson Middle School, but police assured parents that students remained safe as they collected their children.
Assistant Chief Jason Swaim of the Winston-Salem police stated that numerous individuals were involved, though investigations continue to determine their exact roles as suspects, victims, or witnesses.
