Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining a 'double standard' concerning women's reservation. He claimed the central government delayed its implementation despite having opportunities to act earlier, raising questions about the timing of their current actions.
Siddaramaiah reiterated Congress's consistent support for women's reservation, noting past legislative efforts like the 73rd and 74th amendments. He criticized the linkage of delimitation with women's reservation, arguing it disadvantages southern states that have successfully controlled population growth.
The Chief Minister also referenced the recent defeat of the Women's Reservation Act 2023 in the Lok Sabha and rejected BJP's criticisms, asserting that the Congress has always supported the initiative.
