Punjab Enacts Stricter Law Against Sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib

The Punjab government has officially implemented the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026. This amendment introduces severe consequences, including possible life imprisonment, for acts of sacrilege against the Guru Granth Sahib.

The assent from Governor Gulab Chand Kataria followed the bill's unanimous passage in the Punjab Assembly. Highlighting the government's dedication, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema expressed that the legislation underscores the Bhagwant Mann administration's commitment to safeguarding the honor of the Guru Granth Sahib.
