Manipur Government Clamps Down on Unauthorized Absences Amid Protests

The Manipur government's strict directive aims to address the unauthorized absence of employees during a five-day shutdown organized by women’s groups. This protest follows the tragic killing of two children in a recent bomb attack in Tronglaobi, which has sent ripples across the region.

Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel has instructed all administrative secretaries and department heads to ensure full attendance and to report any absences. The government emphasized the need for all offices to function normally despite the bandh called by women's organizations in five valley districts.

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam appealed to halt the shutdown, highlighting its widespread impact on education, daily work, and businesses. He reiterated the government's engagement with protest leaders to address their grievances, advocating for a resolution to avoid further societal disruption.
