Employees of the Maharashtra government, including both teaching and non-teaching staff, have announced an indefinite strike starting Tuesday. The protest arises from the government's failure to implement a revised pension scheme as previously promised.
The Coordination Committee representing various staff sectors revealed that despite commitments made by the former Eknath Shinde-led government to address these issues by March 1, 2024, no official notification has been released. This delay means retirees from that date onward will miss out on revised pension benefits.
Among the committee's 17 key demands are filling class four employee vacancies, enhancing health insurance, and increasing the retirement age from 58 to 60. Coordinating member Vishwas Katkar, highlighting the issue, stated that around 3.5 lakh employees support this movement against the government's perceived anti-employee stance.
