Chad is preparing to significantly enhance the United Nations-backed security presence in Haiti by deploying 1,500 more personnel, according to an announcement from its presidential office. The deployment aims to support efforts to construct a 5,500-strong force by the summer, addressing mounting violence and instability in Haiti.

The new deployment comes in addition to 400 Chadian personnel already on the ground, who arrived in April following a restructuring of the force. The planned contribution includes two battalions of 750 personnel each for a 12-month period.

Initial deployments primarily included 1,000 police officers from Kenya and smaller contingents from Central America and the Caribbean, but the force has so far achieved only 40% of its initially targeted size. Despite this, the goal was recently revised upwards to 5,500 personnel as international partners continue to discuss security support for Haiti.
