In a significant development, Telugu film actress and BJP leader Padala Kalyani, alongside Andhra Pradesh BJP spokesperson Ajay, has filed a complaint against actor Prakash Raj with the Panjagutta Police. The complaint seeks the registration of an FIR against Raj for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Lord Ram and the Ramayana.
According to Kalyani's complaint, dated April 20, 2026, Prakash Raj made these contentious statements during the Kerala Literature Festival in Kozhikode in January 2026. She pinpointed a segment of his speech, alleging that he presented a distorted version of the Ramayana, labeling Lord Ram and Lakshman as "North Indian migrant workers" involved in a fruit theft from Ravana, depicted as a South Indian tribal.
The complaint also accuses Raj of equating the Ramayana with beef-eating and criticized his cultural politics. Additionally, Kalyani cited a YouTube video of Raj speaking in a church, suggesting selective religious engagement. The complaint urges an FIR under specific sections, video source tracing, and potential content blocking under IT Act provisions.
