Tragedy at Kannur Dental College: Caste Harassment Allegations Surface

In the wake of a tragic event, Kannur Dental College finds itself under intense scrutiny as two faculty members seek anticipatory bail. The case, involving the death of Nithin Raj R L, a first-year BDS student, has sparked allegations of harassment related to his caste and skin complexion.

Dr. M K Ram and Dr. Sangeetha Nambiar, accused of abetting the suicide, have petitioned the court for bail. The police have registered a case against them under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Meanwhile, the matter has caught the attention of multiple state bodies, including the Kerala SC/ST Commission and the State Human Rights Commission.

As the legal process unfolds, the Kerala University of Health Sciences has initiated an inquiry at the college, gathering testimonies from students and parents. In response to the uproar, the college management terminated Dr. Ram’s service amidst ongoing protests by students.
