Syria Completes Handover of U.S. Military Sites

Syria announced on Thursday the completion of the handover of military sites previously used by U.S. troops to the government. This development marks the successful integration of the Kurdish-led SDF group into national military structures.

In January, the Syrian government and Kurdish forces secured a ceasefire deal, which outlined the gradual integration of Kurdish fighters into Syrian state structures. The Kurdish forces, previously aligned with the United States, have been instrumental in regional conflict dynamics.

For over a decade, Washington maintained a military presence in Syria, primarily focusing on the fight against Islamic State. The transfer of these sites signifies a shift in military alliances and strategic operations in the region.
