The US military has finalized its withdrawal from the Qasrak air base in Syria's Hasakah province, marking a significant transition in regional control. The last convoy of American troops departed on Thursday, leaving the site under full control of the Syrian army, according to officials from both nations.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed the withdrawal as the restoration of sovereignty over previously uncontrolled regions, culminating from efforts by the central government and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. This shift was accompanied by ongoing anti-terrorism initiatives targeting the remnants of the Islamic State group.
Capt Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for US Central Command, stated that the US is committed to supporting partner-led counterterrorism strategies to ensure regional stability. As part of a larger strategy, the US also transferred 5,700 Islamic State militants to Iraqi prisons, reinforcing their mission to counter IS threats.
