A high-level delegation from Odisha's ruling BJP recently visited the Sijimali area in Rayagada district amidst growing tensions over bauxite mining activities. The group, led by Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, assured local tribals their concerns would be addressed promptly.
The visit follows recent clashes in the Kashupur area where locals and police faced off over road construction leading to a bauxite reserve. Notably, accusations of harassment by authorities and legal irregularities have fueled local dissent.
The BJP team plans to submit a detailed report to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Meanwhile, opposition parties demand further investigations into the lease procedures of the Sijimali mine.
