Villagers in Gondia district have staged a road blockade following a fatal accident involving a truck carrying illegally excavated sand. They demand stringent action after a 40-year-old woman lost her life when a tipper truck hit her scooter.
The incident occurred as Rameshwari Dhanlal Nagpure and her daughter were traveling to a funeral. The errant truck, reportedly driven by an untrained driver, struck their vehicle, resulting in Nagpure’s immediate death and injuries to her daughter.
Locals highlight rampant illegal sand mining in areas like Tedwa and Kinhi and the grave danger posed by recklessly driven sand-laden trucks. Authorities intervened, promising a Rs 10 lakh compensation to Nagpure’s family and measures to prevent such tragedies.
