Crackdown in Thane: Authorities Dismantle Illegal Sand Mining Operations

In a significant move, Maharashtra's Thane district authorities have strengthened their efforts against illegal sand mining in Bhiwandi taluka. The operation, executed on Friday, saw the destruction of equipment worth approximately Rs 90 lakh.

According to official sources, the revenue department acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid in the Kevani creek area, known for rampant illegal mining activities. District Collector Shrikrishna Panchal led the charge, resulting in the dismantling of five suction units and eight barges involved in sand extraction.

This endeavor is part of an intensified campaign against the sand mining mafia, with multiple cases already registered in recent months. The authorities emphasize the significance of this operation as it not only targets illegal activities but also addresses environmental concerns since the mining took place on reserved forest land.
