A former Delhi sub-inspector has been convicted by a city court for committing forgery by falsifying the signatures of senior police officers on official chargesheets. The officer, identified as SI Kavita Mathur, has also been found guilty of sending a threatening message to a superior to deter him from taking action against her.
In a ruling issued on April 2, Judicial Magistrate Saurabh Goyal emphasized that Mathur's conduct constituted a severe violation of judicial sanctity, stating that the prosecution had indisputably proven her use of forged public documents to deceive and manipulate official processes. Mathur manipulated documents while posted at Palam Village police station in 2015.
The court relied on corroborative testimony, witness accounts, and forensic evidence, which collectively demonstrated Mathur's culpability in forging the signatures of Assistant Commissioner M Harsh Vardhan and SHO Niyati Mittal Kashyap. Mathur has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for forgery, cheating, and criminal intimidation, with the next hearing set to determine her sentence.
