Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti has been disqualified from the state's legislative assembly after being convicted of forgery and conspiracy charges. The conviction arose from his involvement in manipulating bank records to gain unlawful interest payments, according to official sources.
On Thursday, the Delhi court sentenced Bharti and a former bank employee to three years' imprisonment, also vacating Bharti's Datia assembly seat. The verdict followed allegations that Bharti forged records between 1998 and 2011, a charge Bharti denied as politically motivated.
The court emphasized that acts like forgery and cheating signal a dereliction of duty, not the performance of official responsibilities. This ruling came despite Bharti's claims of political targeting, underscoring the nature of the alleged financial misconduct attributed to him and his associates.
