A Ukrainian military draft officer was tragically stabbed in the neck while distributing a summons in Lviv, authorities revealed. This incident underscores escalating tensions related to military mobilisation as Ukraine grapples with the challenge of confronting a larger, better-equipped Russian army in the prolonged conflict.
The National Police reported that the suspect, an unidentified individual, fled the scene following the stabbing. Despite prompt medical attention, the officer succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, and a widespread manhunt is now in progress. Reports of aggressive recruitment practices have dogged Ukrainian draft offices, further stoking discontent.
Since his appointment in January, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has prioritized overhauling Kyiv's mobilisation system. The draft offices have increasingly become targets of bomb attacks; Ukrainian authorities attribute these actions to a Russian-led sabotage operation aimed at disrupting their military efforts.
