Police Constable Dismissed for Narcotics Involvement in Jammu and Kashmir

A police constable in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district has been dismissed from service following his alleged involvement in a narcotics case, officials reported. Constable Arjun Sharma was relieved from duty by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur after a comprehensive departmental inquiry found him guilty of serious misconduct.

The case pertains to instances recorded under the NDPS Act at Rehmbal police station. Officials revealed that Sharma was apprehended during a routine check by the police team of the Tikri post, which led to the recovery of heroin from his possession. The inquiry determined the gravity of his actions warranted immediate dismissal.

After completing due legal procedures, including issuing a show-cause notice, Sharma's explanation was deemed unsatisfactory. Consequently, the SSP utilized powers under rule 359 of the Jammu and Kashmir police rules to execute the dismissal. The Udhampur District Police emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on drug-related offenses, reinforcing their commitment to public trust and safety.
