The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday responded swiftly to serious allegations of sexual misconduct against a police officer in Maharashtra's Akola district. The commission, under its chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, instructed the state's police chief to file an FIR and take robust action promptly.
This directive follows allegations that an assistant sub-inspector demanded sexual favours from the daughter of a detainee, a scandal that NCW branded as a significant abuse of authority and a violation of human dignity. The commission emphasized the urgency of a fair, time-bound investigation.
Highlighting its resolve, the commission demanded that the state's police submit a detailed action report within seven days and called for sensitisation of police personnel. Such misconduct among law enforcement is a serious concern, the commission asserted in a post.
