BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has issued a formal request to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, advocating for the relaxation of restrictions on Hindu religious processions. According to Somaiya, these restrictions, imposed under current guidelines, are unwarranted and call for a comprehensive review to ensure the free conduct of such cultural events.

The guidelines, according to the former Member of Parliament, detailed that processions for occasions like Ram Navami were prohibited from passing in front of mosques or were required to maintain silence near such locations. Somaiya pointed out specific instances where Ram Navami processions in areas such as Ghatkopar, Powai, and Chembur faced stoppages or were rerouted, citing examples where sound systems were restricted near mosques during prayer times.

Somaiya described an incident in Ghatkopar where a procession was delayed for 45 minutes and argued this as an example of unnecessary obstruction. He is advocating for a review of these procedural guidelines, arguing it would enable religious celebrations to proceed without hindrance.
