Couple Charged Under UAPA for Kashmir Narrative Manipulation

In a significant development, a husband-wife duo has been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly spreading false narratives about the situation in Kashmir through social media. The Jammu and Kashmir Police's counter-intelligence wing filed a chargesheet in a special court in Srinagar against Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat and Shahzada Akther.

The charges, filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and UAPA, claim that the couple used digital platforms to propagate narratives that endangered India's sovereignty. Authorities argue the couple conspired with members of the banned terrorist group Dukhtaran-e-Millat to incite secessionist activities.

According to officials, the duo manipulated social media channels to spread misleading information, aiming to incite violence and disrupt public order. The investigation revealed that their actions were intended to foster hatred and enmity against the Indian Union. The chargesheet has been filed for judicial determination following a comprehensive investigation substantiating their involvement.
