Operation Sindoor: Combating Fake News

The government took decisive action against digital misinformation by blocking more than 1,400 URLs during the recently conducted Operation Sindoor, aimed at preventing the spread of fake news. This revelation was made during a session in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
L. Murugan, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, detailed in a written response that the Fact Check Unit, under the Press Information Bureau, has so far published 2,913 fact-checks. This unit actively verifies news relating to the central government, debunking false information by publishing corrections on their social media platforms.
The Indian government is urging citizens to report any dubious content for fact-checking, further involving the public in fighting misinformation. Operation Sindoor, launched by armed forces targeting terror launchpads, also witnessed active misinformation control, ensuring accurate communication to curb anti-India narratives.
