On Wednesday, members of the ruling NDA celebrated the introduction of the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, highlighting it as a necessary reform. Meanwhile, opposition parties criticized it as discriminatory and a threat to institutional autonomy.
During a heated debate in the Rajya Sabha, BJP legislators pointed out that the Bill aims to bring consistency across paramilitary forces like the CRPF, BSF, CISF, and ITBP, addressing promotion disparities and improving communication among these forces. They argued this would enhance security operations, as demonstrated by reduced instances of Left Wing Extremism.
However, opposition members expressed concerns, arguing that the Bill elevates IPS officers over cadre officers, impacting morale and career progression within CAPFs. They called for a re-examination of the Bill's implications on the paramilitary structure and insisted on broader consultations with CAPF personnel.
