The Centre has decided to pause the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) until concerns from various sectors, including Christian groups, are thoroughly addressed, Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced on Wednesday.

Chandrasekhar assured that the BJP's Kerala unit has urged the Union government not to advance the FCRA Amendment Bill at this juncture, citing prevailing apprehensions. He emphasized that the legislation would only proceed after comprehensive discussions to satisfy all stakeholders involved.

Despite its listing for consideration in Wednesday’s Lok Sabha agenda, the bill was not deliberated. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju commented that the move was guided by legislative priorities rather than political motives, as the bill aims to enhance transparency and secure the utilization of foreign contributions.
