In a determined show of unity, hundreds of civil defence personnel took to the streets, marching towards the state secretariat Nabanna on Tuesday. Their demand: the regularisation of their services.

Despite their peaceful intentions, the rally was intercepted by the police on Forshore Road. Around 50 protesters were briefly detained and later released. The police cited prohibitory orders around Nabanna as the reason for halting the march.

Voicing the grievances of the group, Sushil Das highlighted that the civil defence employees are crucial during emergencies but lack job security and fixed pay. The demonstrators sought to present a list of demands to the Chief Minister's Office, hoping for an audience with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
