Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has openly criticized Israel's decision to recognize Somaliland, a self-declared independent region in northern Somalia. Speaking in Addis Ababa, Erdogan emphasized the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity in the region, cautioning that such acts might disrupt peace in the Horn of Africa.
Increased Turkish involvement in Africa, notably through military and developmental supports, positions Ankara as a key geopolitical player. Erdogan warned against the Horn of Africa becoming a field of foreign competition and reiterated Turkey's consistent stance against regional divisions, particularly those influenced by foreign entities like Israel.
Amidst these unfolding events, Somalia has reacted by severing ties with the UAE and enhancing its alliances, notably with Qatar. Turkey's ongoing criticism of Israel, especially regarding its actions in Gaza, has led to severed trade relations, reflecting deepening rifts in Middle Eastern geopolitics.
