A member of the banned NSCN (Akato) insurgent group has laid down arms in a significant act of surrender in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district, according to official communications. The insurgent, self-identified as 23-year-old 'sergeant' Inno Mosha Pangsa, hails from Tuensang district in Nagaland. This development is seen as a pivotal moment in the effort to stabilize the region.
Pangsa, who became part of the militant group in April 2022, decided to abandon the insurgent cause on Sunday during a formal surrender at Khonsa. He relinquished a .32 calibre pistol, four rounds of ammunition, and a walkie-talkie radio set including a charger, highlighting a move towards cooperation.
The insurgent's formal submission culminates in his transfer to the Khonsa Police for further proceedings. This surrender is expected to have substantial implications for local security and community normalcy, furthering aspirations for enduring peace in an area that has seen significant unrest.
