A local court has finally delivered a verdict on a long-standing murder case that has haunted the town of Mubarakpur for 27 years. The District and Sessions Judge Jay Prakash Pandey convicted 12 people involved in the murder of Ali Akbar, a crime rooted in sectarian tensions.
The gruesome case dates back to April 1999, when the decapitated body of Ali Akbar was found in a pond. He was reportedly attacked and killed while returning from a Muharram procession. Following extensive investigations, a chargesheet was filed against 16 individuals, but four passed away during the trial.
