The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has ramped up its campaign against unsolicited commercial communications (UCC) with a remarkable increase in enforcement actions in 2025. According to an official statement from the Ministry of Communications, 7,31,120 notices were dispatched to unregistered telemarketers found flouting the established norms.

In a bid to deter repeat offenders, TRAI imposed communication restrictions on 4,73,075 violators and disconnected 1,84,482 telecom resources. Since August 2024, over 21.05 lakh resources have been severed, emphasizing a firm stance against spam networks. Remarkably, 31.09 lakh UCC complaints were lodged, with the Do Not Disturb (DND) application accounting for over half, showcasing increased consumer awareness and involvement.

TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti stated that 2025's efforts focused on enhancing consumer control over UCC. Monthly reports indicate that most complaints targeted unregistered telemarketers, underscoring TRAI's commitment to dismantling unauthorized entities. The DND app achieved 84.43% growth, reflecting broad adoption and support for legitimate, consent-based communications.
