The Congress took aim at the BJP-RSS on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary, alleging the misappropriation of his legacy by ideologies not involved in the freedom struggle. They stated that Patel would have been appalled by such actions.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, issued a statement condemning what he called the 'brazen misrepresentation and distortion of history' by 'G2 and their ecosystem' since 2014. Ramesh reflected on the contributions of Patel and his profound partnership with Jawaharlal Nehru in India's nation-building efforts.
He recalled Nehru's tributes to Patel, including a notable statue unveiling in New Delhi and previous commemorations led by Indira Gandhi. Ramesh criticized current political tactics as tarnishing the legacy of selfless icons like Patel, whose role in India's independence and unity remains a foundational chapter in the nation's history.
