Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Warns of Democratic Threat from Voter List Revision

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued a call to action for all those who value democracy to oppose the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters' lists. He described the measure as a significant threat to the democratic foundation of the country.

Vijayan alleges that the expansion of the SIR process to multiple states by the Election Commission of India (ECI) is a deliberate effort to undermine universal suffrage and manipulate electoral rolls for political means. He warned that this move threatens to undermine public trust in India's electoral system.

The chief minister stressed that the use of voters' lists from over a decade ago, rather than current rolls, violates legal statutes and further endangers the democratic process. Vijayan called for a united front to resist this move and protect democratic rights, amidst growing concerns about potential misuse.
