Global container shipping leader MSC has raised concerns over operational hurdles at Kerala's Vizhinjam Port, emphasizing the absence of crucial immigration facilities and outdated documentation practices that hinder efficiency.
Addressing the India Maritime Week 2025, Deepak Tiwari, Managing Director of MSC Agency India, noted the port has handled 1.1 million TEUs since its opening. He highlighted the absence of an ICEGATE system as a critical obstacle that forces reliance on manual processes.
Tiwari pointed out the lack of a dedicated immigration department restricts crew mobility, even though significant investments have been made by the Adani Group in developing the port. Despite these issues, Tiwari expressed optimism about India's maritime prospects, urging streamlined import-export procedures and quicker turnaround times for vessels.
