India's maritime industry is making waves at the India Maritime Week 2025, as Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal declared the sector one of the core strengths of a developed Bharat. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is setting unprecedented standards in the maritime field, Sonowal stated during the event's inauguration.
This year's theme, 'Uniting Ocean, One Mission', embodies not only regional ambitions but echoes the essence of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' or 'the world is one family'. With participation from over 85 countries, the event stands as a testament to India's commitment to sharing expertise and fostering global partnerships, Sonowal said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who launched the session earlier, emphasized India's significant maritime legacy and its strategic position bridging the Indo-Pacific with the Global South. He highlighted India’s rich maritime history, dating back 5,000 years, and advocated for transformative ideas to establish Mumbai as the ‘Gateway of the World’. India's extensive coastline and maritime prowess contribute substantially to its GDP, Shah noted.
