A defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been scheduled for a November 4 hearing. The complaint arises from remarks he made in December 2024, calling three acquitted men in the 2020 Hathras gang-rape case 'accused.' In a recent development, a local MP-MLA court has scheduled the next hearing of a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for November 4. The case has been filed by three men acquitted in the 2020 Hathras gang-rape incident, who allege that Gandhi's remarks, calling them 'accused,' are defamatory.

The defamation case arose after Gandhi, in December 2024, reportedly stated that 'the accused are roaming free while the victim's family is locked inside the house.' This statement has been contested by the lawyer representing the acquitted men, who emphasizes that they had been cleared of charges by a CBI court after serving over two-and-a-half years in jail.

A legal notice demanding Rs 1.5 crore in damages was sent to Gandhi, asking for Rs 50 lakh each in compensation for the three men, Ram Kumar, Luvkush, and Ravi. However, no response was received from Gandhi, prompting the filing of the complaint. Initially, four men were accused in the gang-rape case, but only Sandeep was found guilty and remains in jail.
