The Supreme Court has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its position on a bail application submitted by Kapil Wadhawan, former promoter of DHFL, who is involved in a massive Rs 34,926 crore bank fraud case. This request was made by a bench led by Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi.
The Delhi High Court, on August 4, ruled against granting bail to Wadhawan, emphasizing that his actions during his time in custody were questionable. The court underscored that economic crimes are systemic, affecting more than just specific individuals but the financial framework as a whole.
The CBI claims Wadhawan masterminded this significant financial deception, diverting substantial funds through 87 shell companies. The High Court highlighted the risks of evidence tampering and witness influencing if Wadhawan were released, noting his central role in the alleged conspiracy.
