The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has expressed its attentive monitoring of the unfolding security dynamics in the West Asian region, amid attempts to mediate peace between the United States and Iran. During a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted India's cautious watch over developments and the historic, although inconclusive, Islamabad Peace Talks.
The Pakistani-moderated discussions marked the first face-to-face negotiations between the U.S. and Iran since 1979, endeavoring to end the 39-day Gulf conflict. Additionally, India welcomed a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, affirming support for all peace measures.
India's active role in regional security was demonstrated in its response to maritime security discussions regarding the Strait of Hormuz and confirming participation in a meeting called by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The MEA also emphasized its commitment to the safety of Indian nationals, having evacuated 2,361 individuals, including students and foreign nationals, from Iran amidst the tensions.
The briefing addressed internal sovereignty issues, rejecting Islamabad's objections to India's Delimitation Bill concerning PoK. Furthermore, the MEA explained India's withdrawal from the 33rd UN Climate Change Conference, while reiterating its commitment to environmental objectives and enduring support to global climate initiatives like the International Solar Alliance.
