Himachal Pradesh has taken a significant step in advancing its healthcare capabilities with the inauguration of a Nuclear Medicine Block at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu officiated the ceremony, underscoring the importance of this state-of-the-art facility.
This new facility will offer advanced Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans, allowing for early detection of diseases at the metabolic and molecular levels. Unlike traditional imaging methods such as CT and MRI, which reveal later stage structural changes, PET technology focuses on physiological alterations much earlier.
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that this capability is crucial in oncology for cancer staging, treatment evaluation, and detection of recurrence. The facility will also serve cardiology, neurology, and infectious disease assessments, broadening public access to specialized healthcare without leaving the state.
