The European Union has no intention of engaging in energy deals with Russia amid escalating prices, according to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. In a statement to Reuters on Tuesday, Kallas stressed the absence of such initiatives, even in private, reinforcing the EU's cautious stance on negotiations with Russia.
Kallas pointed out that simply returning to 'business as usual' could lead to further conflicts. "If we just go back to 'business as usual', we will have more of this, more wars. We have seen this before," she warned, underscoring the need for vigilance.
The EU's approach, Kallas suggests, should be to avoid accommodating Russia's demands unnecessarily, as doing so could embolden their ambitions, exacerbating the current geopolitical tensions.
