South African Maize Harvest Projected to Grow in 2025/2026
The Crop Estimates Committee forecasts a 1% increase in South Africa's maize harvest for the 2025/2026 season, predicting a total yield of 16.835 million metric tons compared to the previous season's 16.65 million metric tons. The harvest will consist of 9.085 million metric tons of white maize and 7.75 million metric tons of yellow maize.
South African farmers are set to see a slight rise in maize production for the 2025/2026 season, with a 1% increase compared to the last season, as noted by the Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) on Thursday.
The CEC's third summer crop forecast anticipates a maize output of 16.835 million metric tons, a growth from the preceding season's 16.65 million metric tons. An earlier forecast in March had set the 2026 harvest at 16.51 million metric tons.
This upcoming harvest is expected to include 9.085 million metric tons of white maize for human consumption and 7.75 million metric tons of yellow maize, which is primarily used in animal feed.
