Punjab farmer unions have postponed their scheduled 'rail roko' protest, originally set for Friday, following assurances from government officials to streamline wheat procurement processes.

The protest aimed to address concerns over the delayed procurement of wheat in the wake of untimely rains damaging the grains. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a leader of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, stated that the decision came after an online meeting with leaders from Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Azad Kisan Morcha.

The Punjab government's recent communication to the Centre came after the announcement of the protest, highlighting a lag compared to quicker actions by Haryana and Rajasthan. The unions have now given both the Centre and the Punjab government three days to amend procurement norms to reflect weather-induced grain damage.
