On Thursday, Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, submitted his nomination for the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate. Demonstrating a show of confidence, Udhayanidhi, also son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, conducted a roadshow en route to the Returning Officer's office where he formalized his candidacy.
Udhayanidhi, who currently holds the seat, faces competition from AIADMK's Adhirajaram. He assured reporters of an anticipated victory, stating, "We will create history, we will definitely win this time. Our leader will become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the second time." The 2021 elections saw the DMK triumph over the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) candidate AVA Kassali by a margin of 69,355 votes.
During his campaign, Udhayanidhi Stalin announced a series of voter-focused initiatives, including the distribution of Rs 8,000 coupons for the purchase of household items. This move responds to AIADMK's promise of a refrigerator. Under DMK's agenda, crucial policies such as expanded medical coverage and enhanced social benefits are outlined. Tamil Nadu is set for a single-phase election on April 23, encompassing 234 constituencies, with votes to be counted on May 4.
