In a groundbreaking achievement, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) of Kandla, India's leading maritime hub, has achieved a milestone by surpassing the 160 million metric tonnes (MMT) mark in cargo handling for the 2025-26 financial year. The port recorded a historic 160.11 MMT, the highest cargo volume ever handled by any major port in the country. This milestone crowns DPA as India's top-performing port, showcasing a remarkable 7% year-on-year growth from the previous year.
The success of DPA is attributed to the relentless dedication of its leadership, employees, dock workers, trade unions, and key stakeholders. The port reported a significant increase in handling fertilisers (32%), liquid cargo (23.4%), and container cargo (54%). Additionally, iron and steel saw a 43% growth and clay 17%. Despite slight declines in timber, salt, crude, and coal, Kandla port compensated with increased container traffic and other commodities.
Commemorative events were held to celebrate this achievement, with port workers receiving utility kits in acknowledgment of their contributions. Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority, expressed profound gratitude to all stakeholders, praising the milestone as emblematic of their collective commitment and resilience. Reflecting the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision, DPA's milestone underscores its pivotal role in bolstering India's maritime and economic ambitions.
