In a significant ruling, a Delhi court has reaffirmed the conviction and sentencing of a man found guilty of sexually harassing a woman aboard a Delhi Metro train. The Saket Courts, led by Additional Sessions Judge Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi, concluded that the evidence was rightly appreciated by the trial court, leading to the man's conviction under Sections 354 and 354A of the IPC.
Incidents of this nature in public spaces are alarming, highlighted the court, reinforcing the need for stringent measures to ensure women's safety in public transport. The court dismissed the appeal, maintaining the original judgment and sentence pronounced on May 24, 2025, and October 6, 2025, respectively, by the trial court.
The prosecution detailed the appalling incident where the accused allegedly exposed himself and inappropriately touched a female passenger on the Yellow Line between Saket and INA stations. Following a complaint, an FIR was lodged, leading to the trial that sentenced the accused to concurrent one-year rigorous imprisonment terms, each accompanied by a ₹5,000 fine. Despite defense efforts to overturn the conviction, the sessions court upheld the trial court's decision, effectively dismissing the appeal.
