Artificial intelligence is making its mark on agriculture across the globe, delivering significant results for smallholder farmers. At the AI Impact Summit, Maharashtra Resident Commissioner R Vimala emphasized AI's accessibility to all farmers, regardless of their location in the Global South.
Innovative technologies are leading the charge, with smart necklaces for cows in Kashmir foreseeing infections days in advance, and satellites in Maharashtra predicting sugarcane sweetness with remarkable accuracy. The Maharashtra Department of Agriculture's MahaVISTAAR-AI platform is used by 2.2 million farmers for personalized crop advisories.
Significant progress is also seen in soil testing and yield enhancement through devices that provide instant chemical profiles of soil, combined with satellite data. The compendium documents increased yields and rapid credit approval, showcasing AI's transformative impact on agriculture, prioritizing equity and sustainability.
