The Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department has instructed the Kanchipuram District Collector to warn residents living along the banks of the Palar River. This action comes in the wake of the release of 10,626 cubic feet per second of surplus water from the Palar dam amidst ongoing heavy rainfall.

Authorities have advised locals not to engage in any activities involving the river, such as crossing, bathing, or washing, and to keep livestock away from the riverbanks. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued intense rainfall alerts for coastal areas as many districts witness significant downpours.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recently inspected flood management measures, expressing his commitment to addressing public complaints and ensuring uninterrupted rice procurement. Meanwhile, the RMC has placed several districts under orange and yellow alerts as moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea intensifies rainfall.
